The crew of Buggyra Ultimate Dakar, Tomas Ourednicek and Pavel Vaculik clocked the 44th time in Stage 8, thus improving their overall position further, to 38th place. The first stage after the rest day was also the first one in the dunes, the competitors completed 393 kilometres against the clock between Salta and Belen.
“It was a very difficult stage because we started behind two trucks, and it was impossible to overtake them in the thick dust. Finally in the last kilometres of the first special we managed to pass them. Then we started the second part, but a car got stuck in the sand in front of us, and our engine was already overheating, so we got stuck, too. It took us quite a lot of time to get out. Later we saw a vehicle on its side, so we stopped to help to get it back on four wheels. Then we were finally able to continue in our pace, so we managed to overtake some vehicles. Starting this stage from so behind made it really difficult, it’s almost impossible to complete the track without getting stuck when so many cars and trucks have already passed before us, so we can be happy with the result” Tomas commented on Stage 8.
The trucks of Tatra Buggyra Racing experienced a mixed day: Jaroslav Valtr achieved his career’s best with a fourth place in his Phoenix in Stage 8, while Martin Kolomy and the Fat Boy still has problems after his crash on Saturday.
On Tuesday, a loop stage is waiting for the competitors around Belen, Argentina, from the 436 kilometres altogether 285 km will be against the clock, still among dunes and riverbeds. Both the high temperatures and the navigational difficulties are forecasted to make this ninth special challenging for all categories.
